Dear student,

In order to protect structures from lightening we put up lightening mast and they are grounded all the way to ground pit using lightning conductor, its just a copper conductor .

A lightning conductor, or Lightning rod, is used to direct the lightning strike directly to ground, usually through a long (8ft) copper ground rod driven into the earth. This causes the electricity from the lightning strike to travel directly to ground, not harming any property or people in the building.
