Open in App
Solution

Lysosomes:
  • Lysosomes are simple tiny spherical sac-like structures evenly distributed in the cytoplasm.
  • Each lysosome is a small vesicle surrounded by a single membrane containing hydrolytic enzymes which are capable of digesting or breaking down all organic materials.
Formation of lysosomes:
  • Lysosomes are formed by budding off of the Golgi body whereas the hydrolytic enzymes present within these structures are formed within the endoplasmic reticulum.
  • They serve as the digestive bag which destroys any foreign material entering the cell such as bacteria and viruses.
  • The lysosomes remove the cell debris and form the disposal system of the cell.
  • Lysosomes are also known as suicide bags of a cell as this organelle can burst and the enzymes can eat up their own cells after damage.
