The group of methane-producing anaerobic bacteria is called as methanogens.
Biogas is a mixture of methane and carbon dioxide. Methanogens produce methane, carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas by the anaerobic digestion of cellulosic plant part. Thus, methanogens helps in producing biogas.
