Nerves:

Nerves are composed of a bundle of nerve fibres that relay information among the different body parts by conducting nerve impulses.

Types of nerves:

Sensory Nerves:

  1. The nerves that receive the information from the sensory organs and transfer them to the brain are sensory nerves.
  2. The olfactory nerve is an example of the sensory nerve that transmits information about the smell.

Motor Nerves:

  1. The nerves that receive the messages from the brain and spinal cord and transmit them to the effector organs like muscles and glands are known as motor nerves.
  2. The trochlear nerve is an example of the motor nerve that controls the eye's movement.

Mixed Nerves:

  1. The nerves that can perform the function of both sensory and motor nerve are called mixed nerves.
  2. The facial nerve is an example of a mixed nerve.
