What are neuromast organs of fishes? What is their function?

The neuromast are the organs which acts as sensors in the bodies of the fishes and the amphibians. The organs are placed along the lateral line. These are hair-like cells which act as sensory organs. These are the cells on the body of the organisms which live in water. These organs guide the organism about the water movements. There are afferent and efferent nerve fibres associated with this organ. The function of this organ to detect the water movements and guide the fish to change the direction in response to danger.
