The contrasting form of genes specific for a particular character is called the allele specific for that character.
Alleles are made of contrasting pairs of genes present at the same loci. They are alternating forms of genes. If blue eye color and green eye color are denoted by Eb gene and Eg gene respectively, then these genes are called alleles of each other for the eye color character. Such genes that are present as allelic pairs are called allelic genes.
If the alleles are not aligned on the same locus of the homologous chromosome then it will be called a non-allelic gene.
Examples: epistatic character, partial dominance are common characters observed mainly in the non-allelic genes.
