Solution

Normal salt:

When all the hydrogen ions present in a specific acid get replaced by ammonium ion or metal, then the salt produced is known as a normal salt.

Examples:

  • Sodium sulfate Na2SO4
  • Calcium carbonate CaCO3
  • Ammonium chloride NH4Cl.

When ammonium hydroxideNH4OH reacts with hydrochloric acidHCl, formation of ammonium chloride salt and waterH2O takes place.

The formation of a normal salt can be understood by the following reaction:

NH4OH(aq)+HCl(aq)NH4Cl(s)+H2O(l)
