Ommatidia:

  1. Ommatidia is also called compound eyes.
  2. It is made up of pigmented photoreceptor cells. These are present as clusters of cells.
  3. Each ommatidia component creates an image, and each combined creates a complete image.
  4. Omatida are covered by the cornea.
  5. There are one to nine photoreceptor cells present in each ommatidium.
  6. These photoreceptor pigments are also known as primary or secondary pigment cells.
