Solution

Paraspinal muscles:

  1. Paraspinal muscles consist of muscles that run along the length of the spinal column.
  2. They enable the spine to extend, rotate, and bend.
  3. These muscles contain three layers of back muscles - Iliocostalis, Longissimus, and Spinalis.
  4. Iliocostalis is the lateral portion of the spine and is homologous with the ribs.
  5. Longissimus is the longest central part of the spine muscle and runs along the entire length of the spinal cord.
  6. The spinalis is a bundle of muscles and tendons located near the spinal cord.
  7. These muscles remain attached to the spine and coordinate the movements of the spine and stabilize it.
  8. Muscle atrophy, strain, and poor posture negatively influence these muscles, and simple muscle exercises strengthen them.
  9. The symptoms of a paraspinal muscle disorder include back pain, muscle spasms, and difficulty in bending.
