  • A group of atoms carrying a charge is known as a polyatomic ion or ions which consist of more than one type of atom.

Examples of polyatomic ions

  • Nitrate ionNO3-:-In this ion, three oxygen atoms, and one nitrogen atom are present.
  • Ammonium ionNH4+:-In this ion, four hydrogen atoms, and one nitrogen atom are present.
  • Sulfate ion (SO42):-In this ion, four oxygen atoms, and one sulfur atom are present.
