Solution

Dear Student,

Polynomials are algebraic expressions containing variables and coefficients. The terms of the polynomial are joined by the following mathematical operations :
  • Addition
  • Multiplication
  • Subtraction
It is important to note that variable in a polynomial must have a whole number exponent. (negative powers and fractional powers are not allowed.)

Eg: 2x2 + 5x + 3 is a polynomialHowever 2x-2 + 5x + 3 is not a polynomial ( Negative exponents are not allowed in polynomials. )2y3 is not a polynomial ( as 2y3 = 2y-3 . Negative exponents are not allowed in polynomials.) x = x12 . So, x has a non-whole number exponent. So x is not a polynomial.
