Protective tissues are the tissues that are present in the outermost part of the plant(leaves, stem, roots, etc.) that are responsible for protecting the plant body.
There are two types of protective tissues, namely epidermis, and cork.
The epidermis is the outermost layer of the plant body that protects the plant against mechanical injury, infection, water loss, etc.
The cells are closely packed to each other without any intercellular spaces.
As the plant grows, the epidermis of the plant is replaced by another protective tissue known as cork or phellogen that protects the plant.
The cells of the cork are dead and rectangular-shaped and are arranged very close to each other without any intercellular spaces.
