Carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and other complex biomolecules made up of living systems.
Proteins and carbohydrates are necessary components of our diet.
Proteins
Protein is derived from the Greek word "proteios," which means "principal" or “of primary importance.”
Proteins are large-sized macromolecules having one or more polypeptides. A polypeptide is a chain of amino acids linked by the peptide bonds.
There are approximately 300 amino acids known to exist but only 20 types of amino acids are used in the formation of proteins as the genetic code in eukaryotes and prokaryotes can code for only 20 amino acids, which further combine to form different proteins in living cells.
Milk, cheese, peanuts, fish, pulses, and meat are excellent sources of protein.
