What are pseudopodia in Amoeba? What are the functions of pseudopodia ?
Pseudopodia:
Pseudopodia is called the false feet as they are actually extensions of the cytoplasm or the thick liquid that is inside organisms like an Amoeba. The organism can change the shape of the pseudopodia based on the direction of movement and it can extend in a flexible manner.
Generally, the Amoeba moves in the direction of food molecules using the pseudopodial movement. The pseudopodia extends from the two sides of the food molecule and surrounds it and finally engulfs the food. Hence, pseudopodia is used in movement and as a tool to capture prey or obtain required nutrition.
