The radioactive isotopes of some elements are found to be radioactive. Such isotopes emit various types of radiation and are called radioisotopes.
Common examples of radioactive isotopes are Arsenic-74, Iodine-131, Cobalt-60 and Uranium-235.
Use of Radioisotopes:
Many diseases such as leukemia, cancer, etc. are cured by radiotherapy. Gamma radiations obtained from cobalt-60 are used to treat cancer by killing the cells in the malignant tumor of the patient.
