Relief features
Relief features are high and low lands on the surface of the earth.
The relief features are hills, plateaus, plains, valleys, river basins, Rocky and sandy places etc.
These features are represented by special symbols. One such relief symbol is contours.
Contour lines
Contour lines are defined as the collection of lines joining places having the same elevation above mean sea level.
It shows the three dimensional effect of relief.
A widely stretched flat- topped high land, with relatively steeper slopes, rising above the adjoining plain or sea is called a plateau.
The contour lines representing a plateau are normally close spaced at the margins with the innermost contours showing a wide gap between its two sides.
