Relief features
  • Relief features are high and low lands on the surface of the earth.
  • The relief features are hills, plateaus, plains, valleys, river basins, Rocky and sandy places etc.
  • These features are represented by special symbols. One such relief symbol is contours.
Contour lines
  • Contour lines are defined as the collection of lines joining places having the same elevation above mean sea level.
  • It shows the three dimensional effect of relief.
  • A widely stretched flat- topped high land, with relatively steeper slopes, rising above the adjoining plain or sea is called a plateau.
  • The contour lines representing a plateau are normally close spaced at the margins with the innermost contours showing a wide gap between its two sides.
