Types based on scale:
  • Maps are classified into small scale maps and large scale maps based on the scale.
Small scale map:
  • A small scale map is a type of map in which a very large area like the whole country or continent or even the entire world can be represented on one sheet of paper.
  • Scale of an actual region is reduced to a greater extent. For example: World map.
Large scale map:
  • A large scale map is a type of map in which a really small place, a village and the different parts such as roads, post office, hospitals, houses are represented on one sheet of paper.
  • It needs to be scaled down to a much lesser extent. For example : Topographical maps.
