Question

What are solar winds?

Open in App
Solution

There is a persistent stream of protons blowing out of corona and sweeping over the whole solar system. These are called solar winds. Recent researches show that the solar wind is made up of a plasma that is ionized gas - mostly hydrogen and helium - containing nearly an equal number of protons and electrons. The flow is at a speed of 400 km per second. Owing to the earth's rotation these winds travel in spirals.
