  3. It facilitates the inhalation of oxygen and the exhalation of carbon dioxide.
  4. Its main function is to exchange gases between the air, blood, and the body's cells.

Factors affecting the respiratory system:

  1. Ozone- causes the muscles of the respiratory system to constrict thus, trapping the air in the alveoli.
  2. Formaldehyde- causes infections of the nose, eyes, and throat.
  3. Nitrogen dioxide- causes severe lung diseases and asthma.
  4. Sulphur dioxide- causes chronic bronchitis, and asthma, among other diseases.
