What are some harmful effects of fungi?

Solution

Fungi

  1. Fungi are eukaryotic organisms, meaning that their cells have distinct nuclei and membrane-bound organelles.
  2. Fungi were once considered to be part of the plant kingdom, but they have since been separated from plants due to their lack of chlorophyll and distinctive structural and physiological characteristics (such as cell wall and cell membrane components).

Features

  1. Eukaryotic: Eukaryotic organisms with a cell wall made up of fungi. The majority of fungi are saprophytes, or living things that feed on decaying stuff; a small number are parasites, or those that feed on living things.
  2. Non-vascular: Phloem and xylem, the vascular tissues that make up the real roots, stems, and leaves of plants, are absent from fungi.
  3. Non-motile: Heterotrophic fungi are non-motile (they do not move) (they get food and energy from other organisms). Fungi are distinguished by their mode of "extracellular digestion and absorption" of food.
  4. Heterotrophic organism: Fungi are heterotrophic organisms since they cannot make their own food and must obtain carbohydrates and other nutrients from the living things they consume, such as plants, animals, and decomposing materials. The fungi are typically thought of as heterotrophs, meaning that their only source of nutrition for metabolism is from other species.

Harmful effect:

  1. Wood stains: Fungi are generally responsible for wood deterioration and stains. The wood may appear in a variety of blue, black, and brown tones.
  2. Only when the fruiting of fungicide is visible on the surface does food become unattractive.
  3. Foods high in sugar, such as fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, milk, and milk products, are susceptible to fungus infections.
  4. Ringworm: Central clearing and itchy round, red, scaly spots with distinct elevated margins (Usually on trunk and limbs).
  5. A prevalent ailment is athlete's foot, which most frequently affects young children before puberty.
