Solution

Plant defenses:

Plant defense against herbivory, also known as host-plant resistance (HPR), refers to a set of adaptations that plants have developed to help them survive and reproduce by limiting the impact of herbivores.
Example of Plant defenses:

  1. Some plant defenses are listed below:
  2. Seeds are dispersed when pods fragment, dehisce or explode, allowing them to escape larvae that enter through the pod walls.
  3. Gum production by seed pods occurs after the first larva has penetrated the egg mass. This can cause the remaining eggs to be pushed away, or immature larvae to drown or become trapped.
  4. When the pod opens, a layer of substance on the surface of the seeds swells, separating the connected eggs.
  5. The immature seeds remain tiny for the entire year until rapidly maturing right before being disseminated.
