Spiracles:-

  1. Spiracles are the external opening having tubules that function during the gaseous exchange in cockroaches.
  2. They are 20 in numbers or 10 in pairs.
  3. Out of 10 pairs, 2 pairs are located in the thoracic region while the 8 pairs are found in the abdomen region.
  4. The1st and 3rd pairs of spiracles are larger and remain open at all times.
  5. Thoracic spiracles are used externally for closing lids that are attached to the muscles.
  6. Most of the abdominal spiracles possess similarities in size, except the last abdominal spiracle.
  7. It has a D-shaped opening and is larger and shaped differently.
