Sponges:

  1. Sponges belongs to the phylum Porifera.
  2. They are usually found in the sea, however a few species may also be found in fresh water.
  3. Sponges have a porous skeleton with a complex network of channels formed of fibrous material or siliceous or calcareous spicules.
  4. Example: Leucosolenia (simple sponge), Spongilla (fresh water sponge), and Euspongia (bath sponge).
