What are sporangiospores?

Open in App
Solution

Spongiospores:

  1. Spongiospores are the spores that are encapsulated in the sporangium (a special cell that contains spores).
  2. These spores can either have one or multiple nuclei. The shape of spores varies from ellipsoidal to globose.
  3. These spores form the cleavage of the sporangial cytoplasm.
  4. Sporangiospores are usually contained within a sporangium, which forms and protects them until they are mature for release into the environment.
  5. The wall of the sporangium blackens as it matures and splits open to release the sporangiospores.
  6. For most fungi to propagate and multiply, they produce spores.
  7. The mother cell, a reproductive unit produces spores.
  8. Mature spores get released and give rise to a new generation once they germinate.
