Proteins are nitrogenous compounds that possess carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Some proteins even have sulfur. Basically, they are made up of amino acids.
They are involved in the structural organization of the cell and they are involved in all the biological functions.
They are classified further into structural and functional proteins.
Structural proteins: They possess a characteristic amino acid sequence that repeats and forms a structure or contributes to the mechanical properties of a living organism, cell, or material. Eg: Keratin, Collagen in the skin, hair, and nails.
Functional proteins: They possess a biological activity and are involved in the biological function of a living organism. Eg: Haemoglobin, Insulin, and all the enzymes.
