Solution

Two phases of digestion:

  1. Digestion is the breakdown of food that is eaten into substances that can be used by the body for energy and the growth and repair of cells.
  2. Two phases of digestion are mechanical digestion and chemical digestion.
  3. Mechanical digestion is the physical act of breaking down food by non-chemical means.
  4. Mechanical digestion begins in the mouth with the physical act of mastication.
  5. The specialized teeth break down the food as it is cut by the incisors, torn by the cuspids, and ground by the molars.
  6. In chemical digestion the food is physically broken down into smaller fragments with the help of chewing, churning, and segmentation.
  7. The majority of chemical digestion and practically all absorption take place in the small intestine.
  8. Large food molecules are broken down chemically during chemical digestion into their parts, which may subsequently be absorbed past the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream.
  9. In this process, the enzymes are secreted throughout the digestive system.
  10. It breaks down the food into small parts that can be easily digested.
