Solution

Structures of the otolith organ:

  1. The otolith organs are sometimes known as the saccule.
  2. They are also known as gravity receptors because of how they react to gravitational forces.
  3. A single macula, or patch of sensory cells, with a diameter of around 2 mm (0.08 inch), can be found on the inner surface of each sac.
  4. The otolith organs are the two membrane sacs that make up the vestibule, the utricle, and the saccule.

Functions:

  1. The urticles and the saccules are the two otolith organs in the inner ear of vertebrates.
  2. They are a part of the balancing system in the vestibule of the bony labyrinth.
  3. They use a viscous fluid and small stones to detect all the motions of the head.
  4. The utricle is responsible for movement and horizontal head tilts.
  5. The saccule is responsible for movement and verticle head tilts.
