Nucleic acids:

  2. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and ribonucleic acid (RNA) are the two primary types of nucleic acids (RNA). The genetic material in all free-living creatures and most viruses are made up of DNA, which is the master blueprint for life. RNA is the genetic material of certain viruses, but it may also be present in all living cells, where it plays a key part in processes like protein synthesis.

Functions of nucleic acids:

  1. DNA is a type of genetic material that contains all of a person's genetic information.
  2. DNA also allows genetic information to be passed down from one generation to the next.
  3. RNAs play a role in the expression of DNA's genetic code by generating certain proteins.
  4. Some RNAs have the ability to behave as enzymes.
  5. Protein synthesis is aided by RNA.
