Capillaries :

  1. Capillaries are basically the very delicate and small blood vessels that exist throughout the body and form a network.
  2. Their main function is to transport blood, nutrients and oxygen to the organs and the organ systems.
  3. There are three types of capillaries:
  • Continuous capillaries:
  1. These are one of the most common type of capillaries.
  2. They can be seen all throughout the epithelial tissues which comprises of skin, muscles as well as they are also seen in the connective tissues.
  3. They can be found in brain and they have a role in the formation of blood brain barrier.
  • Fenestrated capillaries:
  1. Their structure is quite similar to the continuous capillaries.
  2. They differ in having the endothelial cells.
  3. They contain many pores which appear like a circular opening.
  • Discontinuous or sinusoidal capillaries:
  1. These are very thin walled vessels.
  2. There luminous much wider and much more irregular in outline as compare to the previous two.
