Fermentation is the process of obtaining two molecules of ATP energy in the absence of oxygen that is why this process is said to be anaerobic.
The types of fermentation are as follows:
Alcohol fermentation:
In alcohol fermentation a biological process takes place that converts sugars into energy and as a byproduct forms ethanol and carbon dioxide.
This process takes place in the presence of yeast and oxygen is not necessary.
Lactic acid fermentation:
In the process of lactic acid fermentation after the anaerobic process the sugar molecule is converted into lactic acid and cellular energy is produced.
For example fermentation occurs in the formation of yoghurt by lactobacillus bacteria.
Acetic acid fermentation:
It is also known as the vinegar fermentation and it is one of the oldest fermentation known to mankind.
