Solution

Genetic variations:

Genetic variations are the differences among the gene sequences which occurs due to mutation.

The different types of genetic variations are as follows:

  • Single base-pair substitution :
  1. This is also known as single nucleotide polymorphisms.
  2. In this type of substitution a single nucleotide is substituted in place of some other nucleotide.
  3. This is quite common during DNA replication.
  • Insertion or deletion:
  1. During replication of DNA a single nucleotide can get inserted or even get deleted from the sequence.
  2. This can lead to genetic diversity by causing variation in the subsequent DNA replications.
  • Structural variation:
  1. It is the genetic variation that occurrs over a larger DNA sequence.
  2. The DNA sequence of two individuals are never the same.
  3. Structural variation is mainly responsible for genetic diversity.
