Solution

Biomolecules:

These are the molecules that are present in a living body and are involved in one or more biological processes or metabolic reactions.

Types of biomolecules:

  • Nucleic acid: consists of DNA and RNA.
  1. They are the genetic material of an organism,.
  2. DNA is the genetic material in higher organisms whereas some lower organisms have RNA as their genetic material.
  3. The nucleic acids are formed of monomers that are known as nucleotides
  • Proteins: are composed of repeating units known as amino acids.

They are responsible for catalyzing reactions (enzymes) or are present in the membrane and form special proteins with special functions like carrier proteins channel proteins etc.

  • Lipids: are formed from fatty acids and glycerol.
  • Carbohydrates: The basic building block of these this polymer is a monosaccharide.

They play a structural role as well as is the substrate for energy production and are hence energy-yielding compounds
