Cells:

  1. It is the basic unit of a living organism that is capable of performing all the essential functions of life.
  2. It can be a prokaryotic cell or eukaryotic cell

Functions:

  1. Plant cell contains chloroplasts that are responsible for the synthesis of carbohydrates.
  2. Both plant and animal cell contains mitochondria that are responsible for the generation of energy in the form of ATP.
  3. It is responsible for metabolic reactions as these chemical reactions occur inside the cell and are responsible for keeping the organism alive.
  4. In complex organisms, growth occurs by simple multiplication of details so these cells are responsible for the growth of an organism

Some special cells and their functions:

  1. There are some special cells known as white blood cells that are responsible for protecting the body against pathogens.
  2. Red blood cells contain a specific protein known as hemoglobin which is responsible for the transport of gases.
