The stomach wall is composed of the following 4 layers of tissue:

  • Serosa:

The outermost layer, called serosa, is quite thin.

  • Muscularis:
  1. This layer is formed of muscle fibers.
  2. They are arranged such that the inner layer is circular and the outer is longitudinal muscles.
  3. An oblique layer is also found in the stomach.
  • Submucosa:
  1. This layer is made up of loose connective tissues.
  2. Nerves, blood, and lymph are all present.
  • Mucosa:
  1. It is the inner layer.
  2. This layer has rugae, which are uneven creases in the stomach.
