Solution

4 types of gymnosperms:

Coniferophyta:

  1. As the name implies, the Coniferophyta sub-group comprises conifers, which include pines, and cypresses.
  2. Coniferophyta is a gymnosperm phylum that includes a wide range of species.
  3. The majority of conifers are evergreen, which means that they retain their leaves throughout the year.
  4. Conifers are an important economic source for the timber industry and its products, which include wood-based paper.

Cycadophyta:

  1. This comprises cycads, which are found in tropical and subtropical woods.
  2. These are likewise evergreen plants with feather-like leaf structures and long stems that distribute the huge leaves across the trunk.
  3. Because of their sluggish development rate, the plants can live for many years.
  4. The King Sago palm can take up to 50 years to reach a height of 10 feet.
  5. Unlike conifers, cycad trees can only produce male cones (also known as pollen) or female cones (known as ovules).

Ginkgophyta:

  1. Ginkgo Biloba is the sole surviving plant from the gymnosperm division Ginkgophyta.
  2. These are distinguished by their fan-shaped leaves, which frequently change color throughout the fall season.
  3. Ginkgo biloba is also incredibly huge, with the largest trees reaching around 160 feet in height.
  4. The thicker the trunks and the deeper the roots, the older the tree.
  5. These grow in sunny regions across the world, where they can get plenty of water and have plenty of soil drainage.

Gnetophyta:

  1. The Gnetophyta group of gymnosperms has just a few species from three genera: Ephedra, Gnetum, and Welwitschia.
  2. Many Ephedra species are shrubs that are usually found in arid sections of the American highlands or the chilly portions of India's Himalayan Mountains.
  3. Some Ephedra species are medicinal and are the primary source of the decongestant medication ephedrine.
  4. The leaves of the Ephedra species are scale-like and have thin stems.
  5. Gnetum species include shrubs and trees, the majority of which are woody vines that grow around other plants.
  6. They occur in tropical rain forests and have large, flat leaves similar to blooming plant leaves.
