Fruits are seed-bearing structures formed from the ripened ovaries of flowering plants.
The categories of fruits are:
Pome - The receptacle produces the majority of the fruit. Such fruits bloom from trees. e.g. pear, apple
Drupe - Peaches, coconuts, and olives are examples of drupes, which have fleshy fruit and a single seed with a hard endocarp. Also called stone fruits.
Berry - These type of fruits have a single seed in the center and are very juicy. For eg., grapes, blueberries.
Aggregate fruit - Such as strawberries, originate from a single flower with multiple pistils.
Legumes: Beans, peas, and other legumes are split on two sides.
Capsules - are dry fruits with several carpels, such as orchids.
Nuts - Dry, single-seeded fruits like acorns, pine nuts, etc. that have high oil content.
