What are the advantages and disadvantages of space wave propogation?

Dear Student,

Although space wave propagation provide us an efficient way of transfer as the signals are reflected from Ionosphere but it has both pros and cons. Let's have a view of them.

PROS-

1)- It utilizes the reflective property of ionosphere available above the earth at higher frequencies so it is efficient in its mode of operation.
2)- It is the most simple mode of propagation and provides continuous support in communications.

CONS-

1)- Ionosphere is present at different heights during night time and day time respectively. Due to this, Skywaves have to travel longer or smaller distances.
2)- Transmitter signal travels multiple hops before reaching the receiver. This reduces signal strength considerably if distances are larger between transmitter and receiver antennas.
