What are the advantages of using AC over DC?

Following are the advantages of AC over DC -

• AC can be generated at high voltages, but DC cannot be generated at high voltages because of sparking, due to which the commutator gets damaged.
• High voltages AC generators are much simpler and cheaper than DC generators of the same range. This is because in an AC generator there is no commutator.
• AC can be easily stepped up or stepped down using a transformer. When the voltage is stepped up, the current decreases. This fact can be utilized to transmit AC over long distances with low transmission losses.
