What are the advantages of using armature as the stator in a power generator?

An armature is one of the important parts of a generator including the magnetic field. In generators, The magnetic field lines have to be cut. Because the armature of a power generator is heavy, it is used as a stator ( stationary part ). This helps to eliminate the graphite brush and avoids sparks.
