There are various applications and uses of recombinant DNA technology:
(i) Genetic engineering has allowed the researchers to understand the genes and other parts of the genes.
(ii) Genetically engineered bacteria are used to synthesize certain drugs, proteins, hormones and antibiotics.
(iii) New transgenic plants are produced which are resistant to diseases and pest attack.
(iv) Gene therapy can be used for the treatment of certain genetic disorders.
(v) Super bugs are produced by modifying the bacteria. These bacteria can degrade many different chemicals. The super bugs can destroy octanes, xylenes, camphor and toluene.
