1. Water pollution is the change in the quality of water due to the mixing of pollutants.
2. Water pollution can be caused by the addition of:-

• Release of fertilizers and pesticides into the river.
• Sewage directly enters rivers, ponds, and lakes.
• The release of hot water from the thermal plant increases the temperature of water bodies and reduces the dissolved oxygen in water thus killing the aquatic organisms.
• Release of chemicals as industrial waste from industries
  3. We can take the following measures to check water pollution:
• Water bodies should not be connected directly to the sewage lines.
• We should avoid throwing our garbage or domestic waste in the water body.
• Dumping toxic compounds from industries into the water bodies should be avoided.
• Washing of clothes should be avoided near water bodies as it adds a lot of detergents to it.
• Trees should be planted near the banks of the river to check soil erosion otherwise erosion leads to siltation of water bodies.
