Open in App
Solution

Instructions:

Define water scarcity
Mention the causes of water scarcity

Solution:
Water scarcity is a condition when there are insufficient freshwater resources to meet the human and environmental demands of a given area.

The causes of water scarcity:
  • Firstly, more population led to expansion in agriculture. Quantitatively.. Irrigation increased rapidly which led to the depletion of the water table. If we were to look at the quantitative aspect, salinity increases as well.
  • Secondly, let’s look at the result of rapid urbanization and industrialization. Quantitatively, the water table went down dramatically. Qualitatively industries dumped effluents directly into water bodies leading to water pollution.
