The characteristics of agriculture in Central Highlands of India are as follows.
(a) It is the main occupation of the people in the Peninsular Plateau region.
(b) All districts have their economy predominantly based on agriculture.
(c) Cotton and soybeans are important cash crops in this region.
(d) The other major crops grown in the area are wheat, rice, jawar, maize, bajra, gram, mung, urad and soybeans.
(e) Peninsular plateau of India is dependent on rains for irrigation.
(f) The major sources of irrigation in Bundelkhand are wells and the water in the wels depends on the rains.
(g) The second major source of irrigation is ponds which are spread all over.
(h) Infertility of land, low productivity, lack of irrigation facilities and non-use of modern techniques have hindered the development of agriculture.
