Meristematic tissues :

  1. A group of cells that are continuously carrying out the process of cell division for the process of growth and replacing the old worn-out cells.
  2. Cells of these tissues have constantly dividing living cells that do not perform any function other than cell division.

Characteristics of meristematic cells:

  1. Their cell has primary cell walls, which are inelastic and cellulosic.
  2. The cells are round, oval, polygonal, or rectangular.
  3. These are small-sized cells.
  4. The meristematic cells do not have intercellular spaces since the cells are tightly packed.
  5. Each meristematic cell possesses dense cytoplasm with a large nucleus.
  6. Vacuoles are small in size and are scattered throughout the cytoplasm.
  7. In some cases, vacuoles are completely absent.
