Sclereids:

  1. Sclereids are dead cells that are irregular in shape.
  2. There are three types of Sclereids namely brachy-sclereids, macro-sclereids and osteo-sclereids.
  3. These are found in the parts of the plants like the cortex, pith, phloem, etc.
  4. Sclereids have pits or holes.
  5. The cell wall of sclereids is very thick due to the presence of excess lignin.
  6. The function of sclereids is to provide rigidity to the seed coat.
