Tropical forest:

  1. The forests are located in the tropical region i.e. in the tropic of Cancer and Capricorn.
  2. They comprise nearly half of the world's forests.
  3. There are different forest types including Eucalyptus open forest, tropical coniferous forests, savanna woodland, and mountain forests.

Characteristics of tropical forest:

  1. The forests remain wet as there is 2,000mm of rain every year.
  2. The average daily temperature is 28°C.
  3. The atmosphere is hot and humid.
  4. The climate is consistent throughout the year as there are no seasons.
  5. The soil is not very fertile and is red in color due to the presence of iron.
  6. Due to the warm and wet climate, it is a perfect place for the growth of plants.
  7. The wide range of plant species supports a variety of animals, birds, and insects.
  8. The layers which make up the tropical forest are ground level, shrub layer, under canopy, main canopy, and emergents.
