Solution

Plant hormones or Phytohormones:

  1. Plant hormones are the chemical messengers that help in the chemical coordination of the plant and thus aid in its growth and development.
  2. The plant may respond to the chemical messenger in the form of growth, or sometimes it can also result in some negative effects.

Example of plant hormones and functions:

Cytokinins:

  1. They are needed for the organogenesis and proliferation of cells.
  2. They also promote chloroplast formation and increase the rate of chlorophyll production.

Abscisic acid:

  1. It is also called a growth retarding hormone and is responsible for the abscission of leaves and fruits during stress conditions.
  2. These conditions can be caused by water, wind, temperature, etc.
