Question

What are the conclusions made from the kinetic energy formula?

Open in App
Solution

The kinetic energy is expressed as

KE=12mv2

Where m=mass of a body and v=the velocity of a body

From the formula,

1. The kinetic energy of a body is directly proportional to the mass of the body.

KEm

When the mass is doubled, KE also gets doubled keeping the velocity constant.

When the mass is halved, then KE also gets halved keeping the velocity constant.

2. The kinetic energy of a body is directly proportional to the square of the velocity.

KEv2

If the velocity of a body is doubled, then its KE becomes four times.

If the velocity of a body is halved, then its KE becomes one-fourth of its initial value.
