The conditions necessary for the formation of covalent molecules are:-​
  1. Both atoms should have four or more electrons in their outermost shells, i.e., non-metals (Exceptions are H, Be, B, Al etc.).​
  2. Both the atoms should have high electron affinity, high electronegativity and high ionization potential.​
  3. Both atoms should have no or negligible electronegativity difference.​
