Each Consequence: 1 Mark
Deforestation is the loss of green cover due to the cutting of trees for personal and commercial purposes.
Consequences of deforestation include:
1.Air pollution - Deforestation affects the air that we breathe. This is because all trees take in carbon dioxide and other pollutants which are known to cause a lot of problems in the atmosphere.
2.Global warming - When forests are cleared or burnt, stored carbon is released into the atmosphere, mainly as carbon dioxide. Deforestation accounts for around 18% of all global greenhouse gas emissions.
3. Soil erosion - Tree roots anchor the soil. Without trees, the soil is free to wash or blow away, which can lead to vegetation growth problems.
4. Landslide - Deforestation can also cause natural disasters like landslides. This is due to the fact that there are no trees left to hold the soil after deforestation.
5. Flood - Deforestation plays many roles in flooding because trees prevent sediment runoffs and forests hold more water than farms or grasslands.
